Buat dual boot pada smartphone

Dual-booting is the process of installing two different operating systems on a computer. This is commonplace with Linux users who may rely on the software compatibility of Windows or Mac OS. Until recently, dual-booting a phone was an impossibility. Most phones simply contained insufficient amounts of memory and RAM to allow multiple operating systems. With the advent of the Android operating system, and the increasing popularity of powerful smartphones, dual-booting on PDAs and cell phones is now a reality.

Instructions

  1.  Download the Android installation package (see Resources).
  2. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. Unpack the contents of the Android installation package onto your phone's memory card. You can use WinRAR or 7-Zip to unpack these files. Both programs offer a free version through their website if you do not currently have an archival program installed on your computer (see Resources).
  4. Locate the file titled "Startup.txt" in the "Startup" directory of your phone's memory card. Drag and drop this file onto the root directory of your phone's memory card. This will allow the Android operating system to detect your phone hardware on startup.
  5. Download the updated "System" file (see Resources). This file is necessary to allow Android to use all of the functions of your Windows Mobile phone. When you have finished downloading the file, rename it to "System.sqsh" and double-click it to install its contents. Select your phone's memory card as the destination directory when using the installation wizard.
  6. Download "zImage.20100127_085953" (see Resources). Rename this file to "zImage" then drag and drop it into the root directory of your phone's memory card.
  7. Download "modules-2.6.27-00796-g6d9e0e9.tar.gz" (see Resources). When the download is complete, drag and drop this file into the root directory of your phone's memory card.
  8. Download "Gen.Y DualBOOT.CAB" (see Resources). Drag and drop this file into the root directory of your phone's memory card when the installation is complete. This is the last file you will need to transfer. Once the transfer has completed, disconnect your phone from the USB cable, then power off your phone. When you restart your phone you will be presented with a menu asking which OS you would like to boot into. Use the touchscreen or your phone's arrow keys to navigate this menu. You can switch operating systems at any time by rebooting the device.
